January 12, 2004  -  Why guys love Japanese girls

I know of so many American guys who've married Japanese girls (unfortunately, I haven't been so lucky >_<).  Almost every guy I've met who has had any contact with Japanese girls is totally smitten with them.   Why is that?  I think I know.  Please keep in mind that this is my opinion and that I use a lot of generalizations, so use some common sense and don't take things too literally.
Those people who haven't been to Japan probably have only seen the ultra cute idols, cosplayers, etc., so of course they've got a good impression of girls in Japan... they've only seen the very cutest.  To be honest, I'm not so sure if Japanese girls are actually all that much cuter than other girls, but they sure seem like it to me and lots of other guys..
I think the most important thing that makes Japanese girls stand out from other girls, especially Western girls, is their personality.   To me, they're much more feminine.  I think Western girls have become too much like men when it comes to personality.  Many people view Japanese women as being weak and subservient, and it may seem like that, but I don't necessarily think that's quite true.  There's an old saying about Japanese women that says something about their strength coming from their ability to be flexible.  It's like a willow branch being very weak, but its flexibility can actually make it stronger than a hardwood branch.   I think the nature of a women is to be kind, selfless, patient, caring, and all that good stuff.  Men (and many Western girls) on the other hand are loud, selfish, aggressive, and all that stuff.  I think that kind of femininity is the thing that most guys are attracted to because nature seeks a balance, and we don't find that much in Western girls anymore.  When I think of a Japanese girl, I think of a lady (in the most respectful sense).  I've gotten to know hundreds of girls in Japan, and I have an extremely high opinion of them.
Another thing that sets Japanese girls apart from Western girls is not only their feminine personality, but they dress and act like girls too!  Too often Western girls tend to dress like Western boys... sneakers, shirt, pants, and a no-work hairstyle.  How often do you see girls in America wearing a dress?  Almost never!!  In Japan, you still see it all the time.   Japanese girls talk like girls, they walk like girls... everything they do is kinda girly.  I don't know why guys like that... a lot of it is silly to us, but I guess it's different from the way we are, and there's something good about that.  Fashion is a big part of Japanese culture, and it's a wonderful thing.  Every time I go to Japan I marvel at how great they girls over there dress (and style their hair).  And then when I come back, I look around and think "blah...".   That's one of the things that makes a big impression on me because even an average looking girl can look great with a good outfit.
The one thing where American girls are totally different from American boys is in what they like.  When it comes to hobbies/interests, it seems like American girls and boys have almost nothing in common.   And if they do have something in common, it's usually the boy being into the things that the girl likes, not the other way around.  The cool thing about Japanese girls is that so many of them love comics, cosplay, games, and all that cool stuff.  It's cool seeing a totally feminine Japanese girl in an arcade kicking ass on a fighting game or talking about last night's K-1 fight on TV.  They still like dumb girly stuff that guys want no part of (even dumb girly comics & games), but the important thing is that there is a common ground.  C'mon what girl would you rather date... the one who talks about J Lo & Ben's latest rumor and last night reality TV show, or the one who might read Chobits or go to Disney Land every other weekend?
And I guess another small reason why Western guys like Japanese girls so much is that they're just different... they have a different culture, accent, etc.  Personally, I think that's pretty cool too.
Naturally guys and girls want to take care of each other.  Guys tend to wanna protect and provide for girls, and girls wanna support the people close to them.  Those are roles pretty much dictated by nature... women are mothers, and men are protectors and providers.  Sure they're not roles set in stone, but I'm sure we tend towards 'em.  So it all comes down to the idea that the nature of Western girls has changed, and a lot of guys see what they want in Japanese girls.  Sure there's much more to it, but I think that's basically why guys love Japanese girls.
