January 10, 2001  -  Perverted Artists

One of the things that has always frustrated me most, is that SO many great artists are seemingly nothing more than perverted freaks!
In Japan...
In Japan, it's an especially big problem.  If you ever try to buy doujinshi comics, you'll find that about most drawn by guys is rape, and torture.  Those are perverted things of the most horrible kind!  Sexy pictures are one thing, but how does anybody get excited over rape and torture?!  *shiver*   Also, if you've surfed some Japanese fanartist sites, you've probably run into the same things (usually not as bad, but similar).
I remember once buying a comic with a cool Cammy & Bulleta picture on back.  It was sealed, but since there were no warnings and the cover pictures seemed normal, I didn't suspect that it was anything bad.  Well, when I got back and opened the comic, I saw Cammy getting raped by some kinda shadow.  I literally threw that book across the room... I was SO mad!  That was my first bad experience, but not my last... I've also had the bad luck to see many doujinshi comics that were equally as horrible.  Since almost all books in Japan are sealed, you usually don't know what you're buying.  I've found that with doujinshi comics, much more often that not, it's not worth the risk.
BTW, you might have noticed that most of my favorite Japanese artists are women (Kohime Ohse, Mami Itoh, etc.).  That's because girls aren't perverted like some guys are.  They keep things serious and fun without losing that natural sexiness that Cammy has.  All that, and because so many Japanese guys really are that perverted...
*note*  Many of their comics may be horrible, but in real life Japan, rape and stuff like that is almost totally unheard of.   Thank goodness that they have no trouble confining that stuff to fantasy!
It's stupid to get excited about cartoon characters...
Of course when there's a character that looks as good as Cammy, you are gonna be attracted to her.  To be honest, I can't imagine a girl more sexy than Cammy, but c'mon... she's a cartoon character!  What's the point of getting myself all worked up over a picture?  It would be torture to let your imagination run wild because there's nothing you can do with her... she's not real!
Then again, I say that, but the fact is that most of these perverted artists have never touched a real girl, so they don't have a proper perspective.  I suppose in their pitiful world, being able to draw a girlfriend is pretty good.  Lemme just tell you that it's not!  No way, no how!!!  A real girl is much better than a cartoon girl.  And even better than that is a real girl dressed like a cartoon girl.  ^_~
Another thing about perspective, is if you get too into cartoon girls, you'll look at real girls and be disappointed.  Cartoon girls are almost always perfect, but there are very few real girls that are nearly good... and you'll probably never get one of those.  For the sake of staying grounded in reality, it's good not to let your standards get unrealistic.
Actually, if perverted artists would just take their talented minds out of the gutter, they might realize that they could use their skills to get real girls.  Girls love fun guys with talent.  Girls also love to be flattered.  Just imagine all the ways you could flatter a girl with artwork.   Think about it... hideous musicians end up marrying supermodels all the time because they know how to use their talents to get girls.  Artists could do the same...
I respect Cammy too much...
As you know, I've never tolerated any kind of perverted Cammy pictures.  You can't avoid sexy with Cammy, but I think there's a clear difference between sexy and perversion.  I know how most guys' minds work, so I've always wanted to avoid that kinda thing for fear that they would see Cammy only as something sexy... instead of the complete character she really is.  Cammy is definitely sexy, but she's also cute, pretty, stylish, smart, strong, interesting, and much, much more!
Me?  Perverted?!
Okay, on this site I've admitted to liking pigtails, bunny outfits, fishnet stockings, kneepads, Asian girls with pink hair and all sorts of other weird stuff... but I'm not a pervert!  I may have a lot of minor fetishes, but it's all very innocent and totally harmless!  You believe me, don't you?  ^_^  Like I said before, there is a fine line.  I know I've never come close crossing that line, so it's all in fun.   Right?  Yeah.
Conclusion...
It's a damn shame that so many good artists waste their time and talent being freaks.   I'm not arguing for fat, ugly girls in game in comics... I'm just saying that so many artists shouldn't take things too far.
